Eastern Carolina Pathology
As a patient, if you find yourself here, it is probably because you received a bill from APP-ECP, LLC (Eastern Carolina Pathology) and you are wondering why. In these web pages we will try to answer any questions you may have. If, however, we do not answer all of your questions to your satisfaction, we encourage you to contact us.
Why am I getting a bill from Eastern Carolina Pathology when I have never been there?
Most likely you recently visited a family physician, specialist, clinic or hospital. During that visit a physician surgically removed tissue from you body (a biopsy) or collected cell samples via a brushing, washing or some other method (cell specimen). Your doctor then sent the biopsy or cell specimen to our laboratory for evaluation. This evaluation requires many complex technical processing steps and ultimately a professional interpretation by pathologists who are specialized and highly-trained phycisians focusing on the study of disease. This is a separate billable event and we bill you and/or your insurance for this diagnostic service.
Why Eastern Carolina Pathology?
Eastern Carolina Pathology is a top laboratory and medical practice of physicians specializing in pathology. Our physician and hospital clients use our laboratory because of our deep expertise, high level of diagnostic quality, rapid turnaround times, and professional and careful handling of patient specimens.
What happens to my specimen?
Upon arrival in our laboratory, the specimens (whether tissue or cells) undergo multiple complex processing steps in order to be placed on glass slides by our professional staff. Each slide is examined by one of our board-certified pathologists and/or our certified cytotechnologists and a diagnosis is rendered. A report is generated and sent to your physician, who in turn is responsible for contacting you with the results.
